Fallout 76 Unlimited Ammo Crafting Guide

Fallout 76 Ammo Crafting Guide

Get some LEAD

The very first ingredient of crafting an insane amount of Ammo in Fallout 76 is the lead. This component is used in almost every single ammo crafting type, and is vital to collect.

You will want to follow my Lucky Hole Mine guide here: Lead Guide

BUT, for quick reference for those that don’t want the “in-depth” version, basically there’s a mine located between the cranberry bog and the savage divide called “Lucky Hole Mine.” This mine is LINED with LEAD and Crystal, so you’re able to farm insane amounts of it within minutes. Make sure to use the Excavator Power Armor, which quadruples your mining yield, and head on over to Lucky Hole Mine.

GET THESE PERKS

What a lot of people forget when crafting ammo (and will later kick themselves because they realize it) is 2 VERY specific perk cards that you absolutely need. These are the perk cards:

  • SUPER DUPER – Luck
  • AMMOSMITH – Agility

These two perk cards are what make crafting unlimited ammo possible. Super Super gives you the chance to craft DOUBLE of anything, including ammo. Ammosmith, like the title states (AND at tier 3) will craft you 40% more ammo. These are absolutely vital to this, so don’t forget to slap those on before you start this process.

On top of these basic perks, for those of you high enough level to acquire LEGENDARY PERKS you can now unlock Ammosmith 2.0, which is called Ammo Factory. This particular Legendary Perk cards can craft up to 150% MORE ammo, meaning that you’ll never run dry of that beautiful 5.56.

All the Steel

Next up on the menu is Steel. Ammo in Fallout 76 typically need both Lead and Steel (and a LOT of it) to craft all the ammo you need, so you need a solid location to farm it. Luckily, there’s quite a few of them, due to the fact that steel can be heavily farmed from the murdering/looting of your enemies!

Before I say ANYTHING else, equip the perk under intelligence “Scrapper.” This perk card can be acquired at the very beginning of the game, and breaks down weapons/armor into WAY more crafting resources. Super important to this grind.

Depending on your level (I’m looking at you, level 1-40’s), you’ll want to find a location that has ARMED enemies, as actual guns (especially the big ones) can be broken down into more steel than you can mine anywhere in the game. Now, there are obviously a couple of locations that are better than others, due to the amount of enemies, spawn rate, weapon type, etc., so here are a couple of my favorite steel farming locations:

  • West Tek
    • Hands down the best location in the entire game. Here you will be able to farm 500+ easy steel from the breaking down the Super Mutant weaponry. Not only do they all carry actual guns, some carry HEAVY weapons, so you’ll be hitting the jackpot farming this locations
  • Any Raider/Cultist Camp really
    • I used to be more specific before NPC arrived, but now that all these locations have been converted to HUMAN AI camps, well, they almost all carry guns, so any location will do well for farming.
  • Morgantown Airport
    • This place is GREAT for lower levels, as Scorched still carry guns to be broken down, yet these guys will hit quite a bit lighter than the other enemies will. Give this place a look over if the other locations are proving a challenge.

Getting the Gunpowder

Gunpowder. Single handedly the most vital piece to all of this Ammo grinding. This is the bread and butter of the meal here, folks, and something you will need a LOT of.

Now, first and foremost, the locations I listed above, where you grind the steel, these are ALL locations that can provide you a TON of gunpowder as well, as enemies who carry guns, carry gunpowder. Make sure that when you look them, you pick up both the weapons they have on them AND their gunpowder, makes it easier in the long run.

For those of you who don’t want to go back and grind all that again (I mean, there’s never a reason NOT to, you benefit from it every time), you can also do the tactic of just making gunpowder yourself… which, in my opinion TYPICALLY isn’t worth it unless your a millionaire in Acid, which is a vital resource to other crafting areas. So like I said, not really worth it.

BUT, if you want to be gunpowder crafting freak of the wasteland, by all means! Here’s a guide on how to grind up Acid in the Appalachia:

ALL Other Resources

Although we have Lead, Steel, and Gunpowder down, there are still PLENTY of other types of resources you need to craft various types of ammo. If you are in need of a specific resources farming guide, make sure to check out all my farming guides:

Fallout 76 Ammo Types

Figured I’d save some of you the hassle of having to manually jump in game from the guide to check on all the resources you need to craft ammo, so here I will list all the different ammo types, what resources they require for you to craft them, and guides to farm the resources. Yes, I know, I know, I am quite amazing.
