Fishing Guide | Sea of Thieves

Sea of Thieves Fishing Guide

The Sea of Thieves has gone beyond any game by putting the calming sport of fishing into the chaotic mess of plundering pirates. With 100 different possibilities of fish to catch and tons of accommodations, fishing is by far the most legal fun you can have in the Sea of Thieves. So pull up your camp chairs, sit back, and enjoy this in depth guide to The Sea of Thieves Fishing.

Bait

Each bait in Sea of Thieves has a specific location where you can find them, but the best location out of all is to check the barrels at any outpost or sea trader as they usually have a good random supply of your creepy crawly friends. But, if the time comes where you need to find that perfect accessory to go with your fishing hook, here is where to find all of the bait in Sea of Thieves.

Earthworms

Dug up in the Grass.

Grub

Splashtails

“A curious little fish which has kept many a pirate from starving at sea”

These splishing splashtails are the most common fish in all of the Sea of Thieves. Found nearly everywhere, they are easy to catch, and easy to eat, just be sure to cook them first.

Note:
Seafoam Splashtail can only be caught at night.

Pondies

“Also called ‘Marooned Sailor’s Supper’, these little fishies are a staple of islanders diets”

By FAR my favorite fish to catch, located on any island that has a pond (doesn’t connect to the ocean and has fish swimming in it). Best to fish from Mermaid’s Hideaway as the ponds there offer a great supply.

Note:
Moonsky Pondies can only be caught under the moon. (at night)

Wreckers

“A big, meaty fish that makes a hearty meal, but its face can easily ruin your appetite.”

These home wreckers are only found near the remains of your pirate brethren’s beloved boat. Guess those Sea Gulls were actually circling around to get a taste of the new inhabitants.

Notes:
Blackcould Wreckers can only be caught at a shipwreck in a storm! (hope your boat doesn’t sink too)
Moon Wreckers are only out at night, they’re full of surprises.

Able to be caught near any active Skeleton

Devilfish

“A meaty fish with a tang of sulphur, the Devilfish suits a hardy palette.”

Sea of Thieves Fishing

While many don’t see the danger in fishing for these Devilfish, the name alone should tell you who you may meet when trying to catch these sea swimmers. The Devilfish love to eat grubs, just make sure you warm them up in the water first.
