  1. StoneKeeper’s
    • WARNING: This set will ultimately get nerfed soon, updated set to follow. Stonekeeper’s is the absolute NEED for tanks in the current META. I mean, it literally shovels resources into your character FOR BLOCKING. That’s like being paid for existing.
  2. Mighty Glacier / Eye of Nahviintaas (Elsweyr)
    • Might Glacier (Wrathstone update) offers an absolutely awesome buff for simply snaring or immobilizing a target. Grants Major Resolve and Major Ward for you and ALL your group members. On top of that, great resource gain for your mixed resource pool.
  3. Ebon Armory
    • The “Good ol’ Reliable” of tanking sets. I think it’s pretty self explanatory why you’d use this set, but just in case you don’t know: Literally gives health to ALL your group members. Pretty dang good.

BASIC Sets:

  1. Lord Warden
    • For those that either aren’t able to trek into Vet Frostvault (arguably the hardest dungeon in the wrathstone dlc), Lord Warden is a close shave in second. This grants your allies with a good amount of resistance every 10 seconds or so (yup, it’s a proc).
  2. Ebon Armory
    • The “Good ol’ Reliable” of tanking sets. I think it’s pretty self explanatory why you’d use this set, but just in case you don’t know: Literally gives health to ALL your group members. Pretty dang good.
  3. Torug’s Pact
    • Strangely enough, a CRAFTED set makes its way into the roster. This set is absolutely fantastic for giving tanks a greater chance to make use of their enchants with great cooldown reduction AND increased it’s potency.

Set Side-Notes:

  • Remember to have 5 Heavy at ALL times, and then 1 piece of Medium with 1 Piece of Light. This way, you’re utilizing that fantastic Undaunted Passive. You’ll notice the arms and the shoulders are not Heavy.

Food:

  • Longfin Pasty with Melon Sauce
    • Crafted with: Fish, Melon, Greens, Frost Mirriam

Potion:

  • Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Version)
    • Can be crafted in the THREE following ways:
    • Bugloss, Columbine, Mountain Flower
    • Bugloss, Columbine, Dragonthorn
    • Columbine, Lady’s Smock, Mountain Flower

Abilities:

Now, before I talk abilities, lets talk practicality. Before I say anything else, tanks like Woeler, Ninja614, and Deltia have inspired me over the years. Soon, you start to rotate in a similar pattern with ability usage. If this setup isn’t to your liking, I’d HIGHLY recommend checking out some of the previous listed tanks rotations. Tanking is USUALLY a pretty standard setup.

Primary Bar: Sword & ShieldSecondary Bar: Sword & Shiel
1:Pierce Armor Polar Wind
2:Heroic Slash Shimmering Shield
3:Deep Thoughts Frozen Device
4:Absorb Missile Bull Netch
5:Leeching Vines Efficient Purge
Ultimate: Eternal Guardian War Horn

Passives:

  1. Animal Companions
    1. QUICK NOTE: I know you’re not using any accept the Netch and the bear, but that’s exactly the point. The bear is simply fluff to soak up the passives, as War Horn is definitely your main Ultimate to use.
  2. Green Balance
  3. Winter’s Embrace
  4. Sword & Shield
  5. Psijic Order
  6. Armor-Light – Race, Evocation, Spell Warding
  7. Armor: Medium – Dexterity, Wind Walker, Improved Sneak
  8. Armor: Heavy – ALL PASSIVES
  9. Fighter’s Guild: Slayer, Banish the Wicked, Skilled Tracker
  10. Undaunted: Undaunted Command, Undaunted Mettle
  11. Argonian: Racial Passives

Conclusion:

Stamina Warden PVE Tank is (in my opinion) a lot more stressful than other classes tend to be. Our constant buffing and bar swapping to maintain our tanking abilities can be a bit nerve-wracking, especially in the bigger boss fights where seconds can determine the wipe of a squad.

Make sure that you constantly focused on having your food active, your potions popped every time they’re available, and please, DO NOT swap bars mid boss attack because you want to use War Horn. Tanking is not about keeping your group alive, and you’re the most qualified to do so.

As you learn the skills, you will soon figure out a rotation that works well for you, as Tanking isn’t like DPS, it requires you to change on the spot, swap your rotation, and basically re-configure yourself MID-FIGHT. Each and every boss wants to kick your butt in a new way, and tanks need to adjust and adapt to each fight. It’s not easy sometimes, but as you learn, you’ll grow to enjoy being the bosses favorite person to smack.
