Valheim Foraging Guide

Foraging is the most time consuming task in any survival game, and Valheim is no different. When your gameplay takes you to the point where you need to gather a lot of basic items to help you with your end game strategy, here’s the Valheim Foraging Guide to help you find what you are looking for.

Table of Contents

Meadows

Meadows is home to a few of the basics that are necessary for just about everything else. With meadows being the majority of most worlds spawn area finding what you need may be easier than you think.

Raspberries

If you haven’t seen at least 100 raspberry bushes you probably haven’t been looking. Raspberries grow on simple looking bushes that are scattered throughout all of the Meadows. These bushes can be found by themselves, or in clusters if you managed to get lucky. Once picked the berries will grow back but it takes several in-game days and the area must be visited often. Best locations I found were abandoned villages that have a few gardens with raspberry bushes. Once you find a large cluster of bushes make sure to mark it on your map and visit often to see if they are ready to be harvested again.

Mushrooms

These little boogers can be quite irritating to locate, as they spawn on the ground in and around the wooded areas of the Meadows. You may walk right past a beautiful cluster of these delectable delicacies and never even realize it. My suggestion is when you need to find mushrooms, go into your Settings and under Graphic turn Vegetation Quality to Low. This will make those little toadstools visible and fill your quota faster.

Bee Hives

Ok, let’s be honest, bees are the most needed commodity in Valheim, so it requires a full detailed page found HERE. If you are willing to use the “Bifröst” method of warping between worlds to collect your needed Queen Bees then I recommend using the following seed as it contains a bee hive 10 seconds from spawn.

Black Forest

The Black Forest is home chalked full of important items that are quite the pain to find, I’m looking at you Thistle. So let’s get right into how to use the Valheim Foraging Guide to make the most out of your time in the Black Forest.

Blueberries

These little blue balls of delight are found on identical bushes to their cousins Raspberries except that they are only located in the black forest. These bushes can be very hard to spot due to the density of the woods and just how small they are. While roaming around be sure to mark where you find them on your map so you can come back around after several in game days to harvest them again as they dont grow in large clusters.

Thistle

So after several attempts to find a good way to farm these glowing sticks of power I decided it was best to just find a map that had a close Black Forest with a lot of Thistle ready for the plucking. This map had close to 150 thistles spread around the main island with nearly 100 of them just in the area south of spawn. It is best to farm these glow sticks at night as they are easier to spot.

I even took the time to mark a few Bee Hives that are located on this map that you can snag while grabbing your thistle.

Swamps

Gunk

Gunk is everyone’s favorite green goop that is currently only required for one weapon in Valheim.  With it only located in the Swamps and clinging onto massive trees this could become a sticky situation.

Valheim Foraging Guide

If you’re super lucky you’ll find tons of gunk at ground level, but if you’re like the rest of us you have to really get creative to grab the gunk that is growing high up in the tree. Easiest way to do that is to place a crafting bench and start making platforms to jump up the tree. Since the tree is an immortal object all your platforms placed will be structurally supported by the tree.

Valheim Foraging Guide

When you’re done, be sure to collect all the gunk that may have landed on the ground around the tree.

Yellow Mushrooms

Yellow Mushroom are found in every Dungeon currently in the game and can only be found in the dungeons. Here is the list of dungeons and where to find them using the Valheim Foraging Guide.

Burial Chambers

Burial Chambers are a wonderful spot when looking for Yellow Mushrooms. Found only in the Black Forest these little holes in the ground are always protected by 3 skeletons outside and a random amount inside. Since these chambers vary in size it’s difficult to state how many mushrooms you will find in each one. But with the possibility of gathering around 25 Yellow Mushrooms plus the shiny bits of loot that can be sold to the Merchant, Burial Chambers are a must for foraging Yellow Mushrooms.

Troll Caves

Troll caves are very small dungeons found in the Black Forest. They usually always have one Troll inside and will sometimes have a Troll spawn outside patrolling the area. These tiny caves will usually have around 10 mushrooms making them a quick grab if you’re willing to face the grumpy inhabitant of the cave.

Sunken Crypt

For the well prepared (and those who’ve beaten The Elder) we have our final dungeon located in the balmy Swamp lands. These crypts hold close to the same amount of Yellow Mushrooms that you can find in a Burial Chamber, but with the added loot of Iron makes them the best choice to collect your glowing little friends. For the best swamp map with the absolute MOST crypts check out my Iron Farm guide HERE
